Winter is in full force here in Arcata, where we had our first significant snowfall in 18 years last week! It seems like the most of the country is also in the midst of some severe weather as well. Please be safe out there!
Our Limited Edition Koffee for this month is a rare one – Uganda Bugishu AA. Uganda is best known for its Robusta coffees (lower quality), but there is a small area on the side of Mt. Elgon that produces some lovely Arabica coffees. The finest is the Bugishu and we have a bag of organic, fair-traded AA (the largest bean). This coffee is roasted to a medium roast to bring out all the best flavors. It’s a medium body, with a fine acidity and a spicy, almost winey character. Order it quickly; our last Limited Roast was sold out on only 2 weeks!
For all you in the Midwest, we’ll have a booth for the third year at Rutabaga’s Canoecopia event March 7-9 in Madison, WI. If you’re in the area, please stop by and say Hi. We will also have our own booth at this year’s Sea Otter Classic, where we’ll be selling whole bean coffee along with our t-shirts, jerseys, socks, and mugs. We are working on a couple of new products which we hope to be introduced there as well, so please come by if you’re in the Monterey, CA area April 17-20.
Speaking of clothing, we have everything in stock right now, so get stocked up for the spring season (really – spring will arrive!). If you haven’t seen what we offer, check out our Apparel Section to see all the new stuff.
We’ve been doing well on the editorial front recently. Adventure Sports Journal just reviewed our coffee in their January issue, and bikeradar.com recently reviewed a group of cycling-oriented coffees as well. GearTrends Magazine is running an article in their current issue on coffee in the outdoor industry and we are a featured part of the article. I have also just learned that we will be in the Buyer’s Guide issue of Bicycling! Magazine coming soon.
And on a personal note, I have just been elected to the Arcata Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Oh boy, more work!
Back to roasting I go.
